The clock is ticking for Google to require 2FA for cloud users by 2025.

Google Cloud is introducing a mandatory two-factor authentication (2FA) requirement for all users who sign in with a password. This move is part of a broader trend in the tech industry towards prioritizing user safety through enhanced verification processes. While 70% of Google Cloud users already use 2FA, 30% still rely solely on passwords. The mandatory 2FA will be phased in starting in 2025, with the first phase starting immediately. Google will encourage users to enable 2FA with "helpful reminders" about its security benefits. Security professionals have praised the decision, as it significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if an attacker gains access to a user's password.
