Microsoft: Word deletes some documents instead of saving them

Microsoft notified users about a new Microsoft alerted users about a new known vulnerability that could allow Word for Windows to destroy documents instead of preserving them.
According to the business, this fault only affects Word for Microsoft 365 customers using version 2409, build 18025.20104. Furthermore, this issue occurs only when users exit Word after editing and are prompted to save. After storing their changes in this manner, the file may disappear.
On affected computers, the known issue causes locally stored files to be erased after saving if the filename contains the symbol # or has a capitalised file extension, such as.DOCX or.RTF.
Redmond verified the issue following numerous user claims that Microsoft Word began losing some of their stored files.

Microsoft's Word team is examining the problem. Until a patch is ready, impacted users can work around problem by checking the recycle bin, as the deleted file may still be recoverable from there.
They can also manually save their work before attempting to exit Word. According to Redmond's tests, "the issue occurs after saving when prompted to click the X to close Word." It does not replicate when manually saving prior.
Additionally, individuals impacted by this bug can enable the "Don't show the Backstage when opening or saving files with keyboard shortcuts" setting in File > Options > Save.
Another interim solution is to revert to the prior version until a fix is released by opening a new Command Prompt window with administrator rights from the Windows search box, pasting the following commands, and pressing Enter after each:

Last month, Redmond resolved another known issue that caused Microsoft 365 products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and OneNote to crash when entering or spell-checking a text.
